Have you ever felt carried by the momentum of life—your past choices, habits, or fears—only to wonder if it’s possible to redirect the flow?
What if the present moment holds the key to stopping that momentum and consciously choosing a new direction?
Recently, I experienced a powerful insight about the true potential of being in the now, and it reminded me that the present moment is not only where life happens—it’s where transformation begins.
1. The Power of Presence
We’ve all heard it before: “The present moment is all there is.” But what does that truly mean in practice?
When you fully embrace the present, you’re no longer tethered to the weight of the past or lost in projections of the future. Think about it: both of the past and the future are happening in your mind, in the now!
You’re standing in the only space – here and now – where you can consciously create change.
To be in the present moment is to accept life exactly as it is, whether you like it or not. It’s about resisting the mind’s tendency to escape—whether into the safety of past memories or the uncertainty of future worries—and instead choosing to stay grounded and tethered in the now.
This doesn’t mean passivity or resignation; it means opening your heart to the fullness of life as it unfolds, even when it’s uncomfortable.
How to Anchor Yourself in the Present Moment
- Accept What Is: Begin by acknowledging the reality of this moment without judgment. Say to yourself, This is where I am, and it’s okay. Acceptance isn’t giving up—it’s creating a foundation of peace from which true change can happen.
- Ground Your Awareness: Focus on your breath, your body, or even the feeling of your feet on the ground. These physical anchors help pull you back from the mind’s escapist tendencies and into the now.
- Observe Without Reacting: Notice the flow of thoughts and emotions, but don’t chase them. Let them pass like clouds in the sky. This creates space for you to respond intentionally rather than react impulsively.
- Shift from Thinking to Feeling: The present moment is deeply felt, not just thought about. Drop into your heart or body and ask: What does this moment feel like? This shift opens the door to a more embodied experience of now.
When you cultivate presence, you discover a power that can’t be accessed when you’re lost in the mind.
The present moment isn’t just a fleeting second—it’s a portal to transformation, and the realization that you have the power to pause, redirect, and consciously create a new momentum.
2. Visualizing Momentum and Possibility
Imagine your life as streams of energy—waves of momentum created by past actions, thoughts, and vibrations.
These waves crash forward, creating your current reality. Often, we feel carried by this momentum, reacting to the flow without realizing we have a choice.

In a recent meditation, I visualized myself standing before these waves of energy. With my arms outstretched, I stopped the streams of momentum, holding them still. In that moment of presence, I realized I could choose: Which wave of possibility do I want to collapse into reality?
By consciously aligning with a feeling, like security or freedom, I collapsed the wave of energy that resonated most deeply with my intent. This wasn’t just a mental exercise—it was a visceral experience of presence, choice, and empowerment.
3. Karma and Self-Effort in the Present Moment
Karma is often described as the accumulation of our past actions, thoughts, and energies. It’s the momentum of consistent thoughts, beliefs and action that brings us to where we are now.
But here’s the truth: karma isn’t set in stone, it’s not destiny – unless you live by default. Through self-awareness and self-effort in the present moment, we can redirect the flow of karmic energy and change our trajectory.
Self-effort isn’t about struggle—it’s about conscious awareness and conscious decision making.
It’s about recognizing the waves of momentum, pausing to meet them with presence, and choosing a new direction. This is how we transform karma into dharma, the path of unconsciously living to one of alignment and purpose.
4. The Practice of Surrender and Choice
Stopping the momentum of the past isn’t always easy. Sometimes, the ego resists, clinging to fear or control. But surrender doesn’t mean giving up—it means letting go of resistance and trusting the creative power of your soul.
The practice of surrender is about softening into the present moment and aligning with your higher self. It’s about consciously choosing the energy you want to embody, even if it takes time to fully feel it.
5. The External World as a Mirror
What if the situations, challenges, and even dreams in your life are mirrors reflecting your internal energy? Every experience, from a passing thought to a workplace shake-up, can serve as a teacher. When we meet these moments with curiosity and presence, we allow them to guide us toward greater alignment.
The external world mirrors the internal, showing us where our energy is flowing and where we’re being invited to shift. By pausing in the present moment, we can respond rather than react, creating new possibilities.
Closing Reflections
As you navigate the waves of your life, remember this: you are not at the mercy of momentum. You are the creator, the observer, and the chooser. By anchoring in presence, embracing self-effort, and aligning with your soul, you can transform your life, one moment at a time.
